The Witcher Season 3 returned to Netflix in December with a vengeance. Second-season episodes of Geralt of Rivia as a father (Henry Cavill) arrived two years after the first, introducing viewers to Netflix’s attempt at a Game of Thrones-like universe, complete with multiple spin-offs. It quickly topped the Netflix Top 10 with its beautiful meditation on found family and existential pain (plus plenty of brutal fight scenes).
The Witcher, based on the writings of Polish novelist Andrzej Sapkowski, is the finest fantasy programme since the earliest seasons of Game of Thrones. It follows three main protagonists as they travel over a mediaeval region of monsters called The Continent. Geralt (the titular Witcher) claims his fated Child of Surprise Ciri (Freya Allan) in season 2 and pledges to defend her against a new crop of uber-deadly creatures. Geralt is immortal-ish. A year after the Battle of Sodden, magician Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) is still embroiled in the politics of Nilfgaard’s realm as well as its Brotherhood of Sorcerers (BOS).
Season 2 concluded with the largest cliffhanger yet, upsetting the equilibrium between our three main protagonists after eight episodes of battle and monsters. Fortunately, development on The Witcher Season 3 has already begun, and it should be on the air in less than two years. Everything we know so far about the forthcoming The Witcher Season 3 is listed below.
Is there a The Witcher Season 3 in the Works?
It was announced months before the second season aired that The Witcher will be returning for a The Witcher Season 3. Netflix made the announcement during their Tudum fan event in September of last year. In addition, a second anime feature (separate from this summer’s Nightmare of the Wolf) and a kids and family series will be added to the Witcher Cinematic Universe, according to the streamer.
We’re so happy to continue to expand this universe and cannot wait for you to join us on this adventure, creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said during the webcast event, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The Witcher Season 3 might be released at what point in the future?
After a season has aired, Netflix normally waits a few months before announcing a renewal, so eager viewers have to wait. For those who haven’t seen The Witcher 2 yet, it was accompanied with the wonderful news that season 3 is nearly finished.
Hissrich told TechRadar that season 3’s writer’s room will be finished by the end of 2021: The writers’ room will be closing on December 3rd, according to Hissrich. As we near the end of the writing process, we’re in awe at the results. Because it’s based on my favourite novel in the series, The Time of Contempt, I’m particularly excited about how the season is turning up.
The Witcher Season 3: Everything that’s going to happen in season 3 has been set up throughout seasons 1 and 2, according to her. “However, the creative process has just just begun. We have the scripts, and now it’s time to bring back the directors and performers to dig deeper and reflect on what we’ve learned so far in order to ensure that this season is just right.
According to PC Gamer, The Witcher season 3 officially began filming in January 2022, with the cast and team posting photographs of site scouting and getting ready to shoot. After the show’s official Twitter account shared a shot from the set in March, filming began.

The Witcher Season 3 official summary was also posted on the show’s Twitter account:
“Geralt sends Ciri of Centra into hiding to safeguard his newly reunited family from those who threaten to destroy it while kings, magicians, and creatures of the Continent compete to capture her. At Aretuza’s fortified stronghold where she believes she will learn more about Ciri’s latent magical abilities, Yennefer takes them on a perilous journey into the heart of political corruption, dark magic, and betrayal. They must fight back and risk it all if they don’t want to lose each other for good.
Here’s a short rundown of where everyone stands after the conclusion of season 2: Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt had made it to Kaer Morhen safely after Ciri dispatched Voleth into the land of the demons through the monolith. Both Ciri and the Wraiths of Mörhogg (the WCU’s Horsemen of Apocalypse) are reeling from their invitation to join them and bring about the end of the world. However, Yennefer’s power has returned and she and Geralt aim to teach Ciri as a saviour of the world rather than a saviour of destruction.
Everyone else on the continent seems to be after Ciri, except from the primary trio. To prevent the end of the world, the Brotherhood intends to assassinate her and everyone else who stands in her way. Redania’s leaders seek to acquire Ciri so that they may claim Cintra and become the most powerful kingdom in the world. Ciri’s Elder ancestry has led the elves to believe she will be their rescuer. A more personal objective is being pursued by Nilfgaard, the nation that has been the principal aggressor against Ciri. Ciri’s assumed deceased father, Emperor Emhyr, a.k.a. the White Flame, turns out to be alive and well after all. Ciri is the only way to go.
The Witcher Season 3 – Story!
The Witcher Season 3 will follow one of the novels’ big events, with some additional plotlines and character advancements introduced by the programme, same as season 2. A number of short stories were adapted for the first season. The Witcher Season 3 will be based on Sapkowski’s second full book, The Time of Contempt. Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt (who were reunited in the season 2 finale) travel to Aretuza, the headquarters of the Brotherhood, in that book. After a coup, the primary trio is forced to split up again in Contempt.
When it comes to future narrative points, Hissrich has already divulged one, while adding that the second season of Blood of Elves made a significant shift from its original material.
In season two, viewers will see that we put a lot more emphasis on the elf plotline, which is far less significant in [the major novel being adapted], Blood of Elves.”” However, I’m aware that the Scoia’tael, an elf army fighting for Nilfgaard, will be introduced in The Witcher Season 3. And it doesn’t look well on them. It’s a bleak and gruesome tale.”
The Witcher Season 3 News: We need to make sure that we understand and humanise their part in the conflict. What’s their point of origin? I don’t know what they are fighting for. It doesn’t matter if they become disoriented along the way. What kind of setting do they have? As a result, we’re always keeping an eye on the big picture of The Witcher 3.
The Witcher Season 3: Cast!
For his part, Henry Cavill told IGN: “I think there’s an opportunity to pursue the Nenneke connection a bit further.” While I would want to continue working with the Witchers, my desire to do so is constrained by the narrative. For me, it’s all about making sure that the tale unfolds without too many distractions or side events obscuring the path of the protagonists.”
As Yennefer said to the same publication, “It’s habitual, isn’t it? Because of her age and her past experiences, she’s not going to be able to just jump into a new way of being without a lot of effort. She’s not going to be able to trust anyone. Even if she’d learned to think things through, in a world like this, you had to look out for yourself first.
The Witcher: Blood Origin is a Prequel to the Main Series.
Post-credits trailer for the upcoming spin-off miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin was shown at the end of season 2. Set 1,200 years before to The Witcher, the six-episode spinoff will tell of a first Witcher and a Conjunction of Earth and Sky, which brought out a horde of monsters to The Continent. With Michelle Yeoh (Crazy Rich Asians), Mirren Mack, and Jacob Collins-Levy starring, Blood Origin is scheduled to release in 2022.
A Blood Origin showrunner told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that the miniseries would portray what life was like for elves (headed by Michelle Yeoh) before humans betrayed them, explaining that the elves were betrayed by humans.
The writers’ room for The Witcher season 2 got together to work on the script and found a plot hole. We were attempting to grasp what the world was like for elves immediately before the Conjunction of the Spheres,”” De Barra said to the media source. “”The books don’t give a clear picture of what transpired. Before colonisation, I drew a picture of what I imagined the world of the elves would have been like, on a whiteboard. That stayed with me.”””
Hissrich, who is also producing Blood Origin, says viewers don’t need to have seen all of The Witcher in order to enjoy the new series. Our true goal has been to reward fans who watch all of the episodes. When you see Blood Origin, you’ll begin to comprehend a little more about what we’re seeing this season.”
